Clark Gable (1901-1960) was a popular romantic movie star of American motion pictures. He appeared in about 70 films, but was best known for his portrayal of the dashing Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind (1939) for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. In 1934, Gable won the Oscar for role in It Happened One Night (1934) with Claudette Colbert.
Gable, whose full name was William Clark Gable, was born in Cadiz, Ohio. He worked in a tire factory and as a lumberjack before becoming an actor and eventually the undisputed "King of Hollywood".
Gable's Movie debut was in The Painted Desert (1932) and his major films include:

  • Manhattan Melodrama (1934)
  • Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
  • San Francisco (1936)
  • Boom Town (1940)
  • Command Decision (1948)
  • The Misfits (1961)

Clark Gable also served as an aerial gunner in the Army Air Forces from 1942 through 1944 during World War II.
